Life's Encouragement

Living Among the Dead

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” (‭Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭1-7‬ ESV)

Dwelling on that question today… “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” My pastor did a phenomenal job of putting this into perspective today. This question seems like an easy one to blow over, thinking “I would never search for someone in a mortuary if I knew they were alive. Duh!” But friends, we do this all too often without even realizing it. We search for life in dead things all around us. We search for life in the clothes we wear or the house we live in. We search for life in the money we have or the vacations we take. We search for life in alcohol or foods or drugs. And we even search for life in relationships we are in or wish we had. All these things are great, but they can never satisfy. We will not find peace in any of those things. The only way we can truly find life is to stop seeking life in dead things that never satisfy, and turn to the only One who can give us life – Christ.  We must no longer try to fill that emptiness with worldly material things. We cannot seek life in anything other than Christ himself.

Seek The Living today and every day, friends.
